We have all come to rely on the internet for information, entertainment, research, etc. It can be a wonderful tool, but it can also be a very dangerous place for children and teens. The internet has become the new digital street corner and where predators seek victims.
Kids love the internet! They watch funny cat videos, play games and chat with friends. But here's the scary part.... Children and teens are very trusting of the internet; they've never known life without it. Because they are so trusting, they often do not recognize potential dangers or pick up on the cues that should tell them something isn't right.
This is why PARENTS are so important.
Parents need 24/7 unrestricted access to their children's phones, computers, IPads, etc., (including passwords and passcodes) so they are aware of WHO their children are talking to and WHAT they are talking about.
God gave you your children, he has entrusted YOU to care for them, to love them, nurture them and protect them.
If you are not familiar with the popular apps your children use, take time to learn about them and how they operate. Become digital media literate. Learn about Parental Controls and USE THEM! Set proper limits and controls and have an open dialog with your children, reminding them not to talk to people they don't personally know. Teach them how to ignore and delete and block strangers who approach them online or during gaming. Be sure they know they know how important it is that you tell them if this is happening. Your children need to understand they should never provide personal information to ANYONE online. (the school they go to, where they live, who their parents are, etc.)
Knowledge is power!
