What is Sex Trafficking?

Sex trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which individuals are forced to perform commercial sex act through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. Minors (which is anyone under the age of 18) engaging in commercial sex are considered to be victims of human trafficking, regardless of the use of force, fraud, or coercion (minors cannot consent).

Anyone under the age of 18 providing sexual services in exchange for ANYTHING of value (money, food, transportation, a place to stay, clothing or accessories, cell phones, drugs, expensive manicures, etc. just to name a few) IS A VICTIM OF SEX TRAFFICKING!

Sex traffickers target victims and then use violence, threats, lies, promises of stardom, debt bondage, promises of love and affection or other forms of control and manipulation to keep their victims involved in the sex industry for their own profit.  It's the exploitation and victimization of a fellow human being for financial gain!

You may be wondering, how Traffickers recruit people within the United States?
Traffickers use two important tools to recruit:  Deception and Manipulation. They recruit in schools, group homes, shopping malls, bus stations, churches and other locations.  They will spend hours perusing different social media platforms using fake profiles to connect with teens often telling them what they want to hear or will even build a perceived romantic relationship with them in order to gain control.

Sex trafficking exists within a variety of venues and businesses including fake massage businesses, escort services, residential brothels, in public on city streets and in truck stops, strip clubs, hostess clubs, hotels and motels, apartments and elsewhere.

A study conducted by Paving the Way Foundation found it only took an average of 8 days for a predator to convince a teen to leave their home to meet up with a complete stranger. This is why parents MUST keep a careful watch and unlimited access to their children's computers and cell phones.
